In addition to audio recording features from different sources, audacity is also capable of post-processing almost all types of audio, as an example, podcasts by adding normalization, trimming, & fading in and out effects. Audacity even has been used to recording and mixing entire albums.

Features

8. You can adjust the audio pitch while maintaining the speed and also adjust audio speed while maintaining the pitch.

9. It uses the " wxWidgets" software library to provide a similar graphical user interface on several OS.

10. Multi-track mixing ability.

Limitations 

This software also has some limitations as it supports only 32-bit or 64-bit audio effect plug-ins and can not support instrument VST (VSTi) plugins. It has no dynamic equalizer controls and real time effects while recording. MIDI files can only be displayed.

To me, Audacity is a wonderful software for a home user. I have been using this software for like 2 years. It has helped me a lot of recording voice for my youtube videos but not only for youtube videos, but it also helps you recording multi-instruments and mixing them. It is often compared to and suggested as a possible replacement for Adobe Photoshop.GIMP has similar functionality to Photoshop, but has a different kind of user interface.The single-window mode introduced in GIMP 2.8 was reviewed in 2012 by Ryan Paul of "Ars Technica", who noted that it maded the user experience feel like "more streamlined and less cluttered."
In October 2013 review of GIMP for ExtremeTech , David Cardinal noted that GIMP's reputation of being hard to use and lacking features has "changed dramatically over the last couple years", and that it was "no longer a crippled alternative to Photoshop".
